Meet Dr. Mohamed S. A. Elfar

Dr. Elfar is an American Board-Certified plastic surgeon with added qualification certification in Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic surgery. Dr. Elfar practices at the International Craniofacial Institute in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Dr. Elfar attended medical school in Egypt. After graduation, he did a surgical internship, completed a surgical residency training and then was in practice of plastic and general surgery.

To further his career, he came to the USA. He started in California with scientific research at the department of plastic surgery at University of California-Irvine. He then moved to Texas for a Burn and Critical Care fellowship, then General Surgery residency training at Shriners Children Hospital for Burns-UTMB and Methodist hospital-Weill Cornell University, respectively.

After years of practice as a burn and complex wound surgeon at Upstate New York, Dr. Elfar moved to New Jersey for his plastic surgery training at Cooper University Hospital of Rowan University. After finishing his training and obtaining his Board certification in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Dr. Elfar came back to Texas, where he completed a fellowship in Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the International Craniofacial Institute in Dallas, Texas where he continued on staff.

Academically, Dr. Elfar is currently an adjunct clinical professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York, a past clinical assistant professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University in New York, and a past clinical instructor at Rowan University in New Jersey.

Dr. Elfar is a member of several National societies, including American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA), American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons (ASMS), American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Society of Critical Care Medicine (ASCCM), and a past member of the American Burn Association (ABA), and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Throughout his career, Dr. Elfar has held several leadership positions including the director of Clark Burn Center, The director of University Skin Bank, and the director of Surgical Outpatient Clinics at SUNY Upstate Medical University, member of the advisory board of Burn foundation of Central New York, member of the American College of Surgeons committee on applicants, New York chapter, member of the Ethics committee of the American Burn Association, and a national faculty for Advanced Burn Life Support courses (ABLS). Currently, Dr. Elfar sits on the Education Committee of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Elfar has several publications and has presented nationally and internationally.

Dr. Elfar is also American Board Certified in General Surgery, Surgical Critical care, in addition to added qualification in Burn surgery. Dr. Elfar has been in practice for over 30 years.
